About Me

When in my life? I was born in Detroit, Michigan, the Motor City in 1954. I attended public school there from kindergarten to 5th grade. My family moved to the suburbs and I went to public school for one year in Harrison Township. Then back to Detroit for 7th grade in public school, 8th grade in Catholic school, and then finishing junior and high school in Detroit at public schools. I graduated in 1972.

As I was born and raised in Detroit, I Have a love for Motown to this very day: at least the music of Detroit, Soul and Rock mostly. I live in Michigan City, Indiana now (moved here in the early 90's), but am within 10 minutes of my home state, and 3 hours of the Motor City

Some of my interests while I was in high school included music, commercial art and design (drafting), and more music. I had an interest (and a knack for) in drawing and painting designs on bigger and bigger media which led me into industrial and commercial painting eventually

I got married for the first time in August of 1973 and shortly thereafter had a son and joined the Army. I was in for 2 years and got out in 1975. I worked landscaping when I first re-entered the work force. Then I was  a residential, commercial, and industrial painter for a good while (until the late 80's). The 80's got me started with computers (amongst other things).

In the 1980's (early to mid) I started playing around with computers. The early ones I remember you had to type in page after page of "machine language code" to even get the computer to do the most insignificant tasks, such as, draw a pattern on the screen or render a fractal image. Then I moved on to the GUI revolution and mice (or is that "mouses"), and DOS and Windows and all of its incarnations since 3.0 . I also became interested in Desktop Publishing programs about then as well and have been making creative cards, flyers, logos or forms etc. for personal and business acquaintances  Most of the time I was either working as a painter or landscaper by either sub or independent contracting. I worked winters usually in the auto salvage yards abundant in the Detroit area.

I have lived in Michigan City since 1992 and have made friends with many people who have similar tastes in art and music. In 2005 I got  very sick and found out that my liver was failing and needed a transplant to save my life. I was very lucky to have a common blood type and to be so near to dying that I was on a priority list for receiving a liver that it only took five weeks to get the transplant done. I got my liver in March 2006. Between the chemotherapy and healing it took 2 years for me to get back to a somewhat normal life - but it happened and I am doing really good now.

More to come later
